Our baby was born sleeping on March 30, 2020 - right in the heart of the pandemic lockdown. It was a traumatic experience for my wife, and we spent 12 precious hours in the presence of our lost baby boy, bathing him, cradling him, singing to him, and crying over him. Because his life was brief but beautiful, we called him our shooting star.

Desperate to create a tribute to him in the months following his departure, I began posting the adventures of Samuel Shootingstar on my instagram account.

The story is more parable than straightforward telling of Samuel’s life. Named for our baby, the character’s journey is also inspired by the rough times our family experienced throughout that very trying year. It’s about feeling small in a big universe, dealing with seemingly endless obstacles and setbacks, and trying to be helpful to our loved ones in spite of all those things.

This is a very personal thing for me, but I hope some of you will enjoy my sentimental little sci-fi tale. Perhaps this book will be a comfort and
encouragement of hope for children and families going through tragedies or hardships.
